Della Douglas

Della Marie (Black) (Gilkey) (Cross) Douglas was born on January 18, 1937 to Zella Barnett Black and Rolla Orid Black in Lincoln, Nebraska.  She passed away on May 23, 2020 at Research Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.  Della married Bob Gilkey and to this union 6 children were born.  Years later, Della married Norman Cross.  It was during this time she enjoyed living in California.  Later in life she met and married Charlie Douglas in 2000. Della enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling, dancing, and cooking.  You could always count on big batches of Christmas candy up until her health would no longer allow this hobby.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; brothers, Buck Black and Roy Black; sisters, Peggy Scofield and Sandra Derr; daughter, Lavonna Marie Gilkey-Bradley; granddaughter, Chelsey Lynn Gilkey; favorite son-in-law, John Fillpot; daughter-in-law, Shannon Gilkey.  She is survived by her children, Johnny & Nellie Gilkey; Carol Fillpot; Bobby Joe & Peggy Jo Gilkey; Freddie & Georgia Gilkey; Dewey Gilkey; sisters, Betty & Raymond Lowen, and Ruth Dale; brother, Mearl & Sharon Black; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and she recently had the honor of becoming a great-great-grandmother. She is also survived by nephews, nieces, other family, friends, and relatives, and by her beloved lap yorkie dog, Daisy.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, May 28, 2020 at Salem Cemetery in Foster, Missouri.  The family viewing will be at Heuser Funeral Home, from 10:00 am until leaving for the graveside services.
