This is celebrating the life of Richard "Rich" Buterbaugh born into this life on January 13, 1933 in Carthage, Mo. He is now starting a new life with Jesus on April 23, 2020.
When Rich was four years old, his father, Basil Buterbaugh, died, At seven years old, Rich, his brother, Elwood, along with his mother, Jewell (Judy) came to live on the farm outside of Rich Hill after the marriage of his mother to Fletcher Bell. Rich graduated from Rich Hill High School, attended college for two years, and then joined the Army until the war ended. Rich then came back to the farm to start a dairy along with his step-father, bought his first tractor, and did custom haying. While working at various jobs for other farmers, Rich maintained a Grade A Holstein dairy for many years.
In July 1978, Richard was united in marriage to the love of his life, JoAnn Allison. A new chapter in his life began. Not only did Rich acquire a wife, but also her six children and three grandchildren. His life was blessed in the following years with more grandchildren and great grandchildren. Rich and JoAnn continued the dairy, enjoying family, and took short trips when they could.
Rich was a member on the township board, a member on the Rich Hill Christian Church board, and the Mid American Dairy Assoc. for many years. He retired the dairy in 2001, but continued to raise beef cattle until 2003. After renting out the pasture, Rich enjoyed bird watching and watching the cattle. In his last years, Rich gave great support helping to get the Carpenter's Cup started in Butler, Mo.
Richard leaves behind his wife, JoAnn, his daughters, Phyllis Boren, Becky Clift, Barbara and husband Frank Brooks, and his sons, Mark and wife Angela, and Matt and wife Vicky Allison. He also leaves 21 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, nephews, and countless friends and neighbors.
Richard will lie in state from 1 to 4 pm Friday, May 1, 2020 so that friends and family may pay respects at the Heuser Funeral Home, Rich Hill, Missouri.
