Robert (Bob) Seater

Robert (Bob) Seater was born on November 14, 1942, in Omaha Nebraska, to Albert and Jean (Sommer) Seater. In 1948 Albert, Robert and grandparents moved to a farm at Arthur, Missouri. Robert attended Rich Hill Grade School and later Metz High School where he graduated before enlisting in the US navy. In June 1960, Bob received his basic training at San Diego, California and was assigned the engineering rating Machinist Mate. He advanced to Mast Chief Petty Officer, Chief Warrant Officer and retired as a Lieutenant line office. While on active duty, he attended San Diego State University, graduated with a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees. He was a member of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the highest all-university academic honor students may receive.Bob served on seven ships: USS Richard B. Anderson (DD-786), San Diego, Ca., USS Stoddard (DD-566), San Diego, Ca., USS Hunley (AS-31), Holy Loch, Scotland, USS Tanner (AGS-15), Pearl Harbor, Hi., USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63), San Diego, Ca., USS Ranger (CV-61), San Diego, Ca. USS Jason (AR-8), San Diego, Ca. He retired from the Navy on April 1, 1982 after 21½ years of service.

After retirement from the Navy Bob went to work for Bechtel Power Corporation at San Onofre Generation Station as a inspector, then later went to work for Southern California Edison as a Quality Inspector and Quality Engineer where he retired.After retirement Bob went back to Rich Hill to be with his dad who had failing health who passed January 31, 2001. Bob grew up in a single parent home. He wanted to give back to his community after Metz High School and the community had provided the guidance in his early life to be successful. In 2006 Bob restored all the Metz High School memorabilia at the Metz Bank at Metz, Missouri. Then in 2007 decided to undertake the restoration and renovation of Balltown Cemetery that completed in 2010.Bob was preceded in death by his father Albert and Nadine (Vogt) Seater, step mother, Charlene (Vogt) Smith, step sister, and cousin Dennis Kimberlin.Survivors include, three cousins: David Kimberlin, Lees Summit, Mo., Doug Kimberlin, Pleasant Hill, Mo., and Donna Polly, Concordia, Mo. and step brother Larry Vogt, New Albany, In. Interment will be at Balltown Cemetery, Horton, Missouri with military honors.
